Africa Teen Geeks Computer Science Education Week 2015

Love computers? Interested in a career in computer science? This could be the event for you! Africa Computer Science Education Week, held between 7 and 13 December 2015, aims to expose children from previously disadvantaged schools to computer science.

Every child in every school - no matter their economic background or where they live - should learn computer science. That’s why Africa Teen Geeks is hosting Africa Computer Science Week. Taking place between 7 and 13 December at universities across the country, including Stellenbosch, Nelson Mandela, Free State and UWC, this event aims to expose children from previously disadvantaged schools to computer science.

IT is a scarce and critical skill in South Africa yet computer science is only taught in 5% of schools. There is a myth that computer science is a difficult subject to learn. We want to show children this isn’t the case. More children, especially girls, need to be exposed to this subject and encouraged to pursue careers in computing. That’s why we’re hosting this event and hope to see you there!
